Electricity is an essential part of our modern world, and this year we will delve deeper into understanding how electrical systems work. In the second year, you already learned about basic concepts such as electric current, voltage, and resistance. This year, we will expand on that knowledge and learn how to apply electricity in more complex situations and calculations.

We begin with a review of electric current and voltage. You already know that electric current is the movement of electrons through a conductor, and that voltage is the force that drives this current. However, this year we will explore in greater depth how voltage and current are connected and how we can use this relationship to understand electrical systems.

One of the most important new concepts we will cover is Ohm’s law. This law describes the relationship between voltage, current, and resistance in an electrical circuit. For example, using Ohm’s law, you can calculate how strong the current is in a particular circuit, or how much resistance is needed to achieve a certain current. This is a fundamental concept that will enable you to work accurately with electrical circuits.

In addition, we will continue with series and parallel circuits. You have already learned what these circuits are, but now we will discover how to use Ohm’s law to calculate what happens in these circuits. For instance, we will examine how voltage and current are distributed across different parts of a circuit and what happens when you adjust the resistance in a circuit.

We will also dive deeper into power in electrical circuits. Power tells us how much electrical energy is converted per second into, for example, light, heat, or motion. You will learn how to calculate the electrical power of a device and how this relates to the voltage and current flowing through the device. This is important for understanding how electrical energy is consumed and how to manage electricity efficiently.

Finally, we will discuss safety in electrical systems. We will talk about why electrical fuses and circuit breakers are important for protecting us from dangerous situations, such as short circuits and overloads in a circuit. Handling electricity safely is crucial, especially when working with higher voltages and larger power outputs.
